First Video: PRIMO VICTORIA

Song:  Primo Victoria
Artist:  VAN CANTO
Producer: Napalm Records

Purpose: The song was artist self-produced in dedication to one of their favourite bands called ‘Sabaton’

Styles:

Homage: The song is homage to the band called ‘Sabaton’ and the band singer called Joakim Brodén as the song is a remake in a Capella style and featured the original Singer Joakim himself.
Live: The way in which the video has been filmed is to make it seem as if the band is playing live. The reasons for this in my opinion is that it fits the video better that an action video of World War 2 because It features another singer and It is not the original version of the song so it would be a waste when it came to resources such as money.

Narrative: The narrative of this video is that the song’s lyrics are about 6th June 1944 during D-day in world war two and about the troops storming onto the beach.

Conventions:

Lyric Interpretation: The interpretation of the lyrics is that it talks form a soldiers point of view of D-Day in World War 2 while the soldiers were storming into the frontline from the ocean.

Techniques:

Lighting: The lighting is used to light the location using a simple 3 point lighting setup. The Key camera shines from next to the camera directly at the scene with the fill light and the back light from each side. The lights are dimmer than usual because it highlights the singers/ band members while keeping the background darkened.
Camera Shots:  The camera focuses mostly on mid-shots and wide shots

Camera Movements: The camera movements involving fast panning and zooming across the screen into and out of people’s faces and actions. This is to match the pace of the song and to match the lyrics in its description of war and is a representation of how chaotic it was.

Miming/ lip syncing: The actors seem to be singing to the song but in my opinion, It would have been lip synced after being performed in a recording studio. Hints of this are the rapid camera movements which are to fast to each other to keep the song complete if done live and the unnecessary movements that the singers make which would put a lot of strain between the singing and the movements in their body.

Chroma Key: chroma key is used and focused on Joakim Making him seem more important that the band and the reasons for this is because the band is featuring him within this video and the fact that he was the lead singer of ‘Sabaton’, the people who created the original version of the song. The effects used are that he is made out to be black and white on a red drop background so that he stands out from the rest of the scene.

Cutting to beat:  In this video, it seems that the producer of the video decided to do the opposite of cutting to the beat by instead focusing the camera onto people when they started something new such as a different background sound such as 2.19 to 2.21 where it cuts from Joakim to the girl just because she has started to sing for effect.
